Last Summer I won the Varley Memorial Award at the RCA, originally I intended to go and see a bit of Europe with the prize money. Later that summer I was invited out to Beijing as I was shortlisted for a design award, the award ceremony was being held at the ICOGRADA International Design Festival in Beijing. With a free ride all the way to China I had to use the Varley Memorial Prize to fulfil a child hood dream; visiting Japan. Here are some shots from Tokyo:

I just finished designing the website for the fantastically talented Simon Dara.
The reductive design is designed to let the images do the talking whist showing that the Belgian born illustrator’s work sits well with contemporary design.

A set of twin posters for a two day workshop with the philospoher / media theorist and activist Franco Berardi. The workshop is taking place in Trondheim, Norway.

I was asked to put together a poster in 24 hours for the Launch event of Tate Modern and Norwegian College NTNU’s collaboration. The event is to mark NTNU funding a six month symposium at the Tate Modern in 2011 around Topology.

Monuments – Team GB / Vancouver 2010

Recently I’ve been continuing my work with UK Sport (see British Weather). I was asked to design the graphics for Team GB’s Skeleton team ahead of Vancouvers Winter Olympic Games. Blackroc is a team of engineers developing innovation specifically for Great Britains Skeleton team. Skeleton is a winter sport where one person races head first down the bobsleigh track on a sled at up to 160km/h, athletes face up to 6G’s around the tracks corners; which I’m told is more than fighter pilots experience. UK Sport approached me to design the applied graphics for these new innovatively enginnered sleds.

Monuments (Winter Olympic Design)
With the Winter Olympic design I played further with the BlackRoc name; the idea is that the sled isn’t just a sled, it’s more than that; it’s a Monument. A monument to innovation, ambition and success. A Monument that is made of BlackRoc.

Each athletes sled features their own portrait, drawing inspiration from the sleds innovative engineering these portraits where created using 3D-mapping scanners to give the look and feel that the portraits are set in a futuristic stone; heroic, olympian and monumental.
